what’s the difference between fine dining experience and regular server experience?
I have been a food server for 21 years. I would like to apply at Gordy’s Steak House but it says at least 2 years fine dining experience. You would think I would know this, but I dont. Can anyone enlighten me? thank you
A fine dining establishment has rules and regulations that most places don’t. The way they serve and clear like others mentioned, wine service, check presentation, table settings, crumbing, a vast knowledge of food and methods in which it is cooked. You will know as much about the menu as a chef in the kitchen. Use of different types of silver ware and stemware, serving bread and the amuse bouche. There is a lot to learn. I have served for 13 years and now have spent 4 in the kitchen for some fine dining and now a local grill joint. One type of service and even cooking do not transfer from one to the other, it is a completely different thing. Good luck.
